Aqua is an 86 storey mixed-use residential skyscraper in Chicago. The Aqua is one of the world's biggest skyscrapers designed by a woman or rather the tallest building in the world designed by an American female-run architectural practice.
Aqua was designed by Jeanne Gang, principal and founder of Studio Gang Architects and it was her first skyscraper project. The Aqua got Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2009 and was shortlisted in 2010 for the biannual international high-rise awards.
The name Aqua was named on the nautical theme most buildings in the city built around. The undulating concrete balconies resemble ripples or waves. Much like in the lake, each flor in Aqua is unique making the construction more challenging and complicated with an area of 16000 square feet. The building looks like a multilayered rock formation or a spinning ballerina that is morphed into a building. From the waltzing balconies, the tower offers fabulous views of the Chicago City skyline. It also has a swimming pool, sky gardens, a library, and a billiard room. The tower's garden roof is Chicago's most expensive.
